What’s Up, DJ Yella?

Known by his stage name DJ Yella, Antoine Carraby, also known as DJ Yoly, is an American DJ, musician, vocalist and video director from Los Angeles, California. Yella was a huge fan of hip hop music from a very young age. He learned to play the keyboards at a very young age and was even sent to live with family in order to take care of him. At the age of seven he was already making tracks on his very own. It was then that he decided to turn pro.

Yella went on to create quite a few singles for popular artists like Akon, Jazzy Jeff and Big Daddy Kane. A lot of his work was featured on the hip hop compilation album “Jivey”. However, one of his most notable singles “Touch of The Myst” was not included on this album and became a huge hit thanks to the singles video featuring French Montana and Slim Benz. Yella’s other singles “Wake Up” with Usher and “Xxplosive” with The Not Ready To Die imprint were both certified hits. He has also produced music for numerous other artists including the Wu-Tang Clan, Cee-Lo, Luther Vandross and Rakim. In fact, he is one of the few producers that has been able to work with every popular artist in the industry.

The Eazy-E forum member “DJ Yella” is well known for his strict “no drugs” policy. His philosophy is based off of old school drug dealing, which he says is very effective. Any drug dealer can tell you that being on the streets is easy as long as you have a dealer. As a DJ it’s different because you get in the studio to make beats and to collaborate with the artist that you’re working with. It’s much harder to be a good DJ if you’re trying to go out and break a record or if you’re attempting to get your name and your reputation spread by selling drugs.
