A DJ Booth is often a very small room in a club or similar event room that is separate from a larger, live public room and is generally played host to the DJ. The DJ Booth is often the main control center of the music system. It usually holds equipment like a CD turntable, headphones, and speakers. When a DJ gets ready to go on stage, he generally walks into the booth and begins playing audio from their mixer that is connected to a soundboard or sound system via speakers. Most DJs also have some input capabilities for play lists, radio, and video screens.
Many times a dj booth will also contain a set of headphones for listening to music that has been programmed into the system. Many times the DJ will have some type of display system with colored lights, picture displays, or a video camera so that fans can see them while dancing. Most booths contain three main components, a mixer, a sound system that using speakers or headphones, and sometimes video monitors that provide information about the current song or track being played.
Depending on the type of event, a DJ may only play pre-recorded audio files from a sound system or may be responsible for selecting a specific song and playing it live. In addition, depending on the size of a venue, a DJ may play more than one song at a time or may have the option to mix songs and switch from one disc jockey to another. Some dj’s have also begun to use CD racks to hold CDs so that there is no problem when trying to match a song. Often times a dj will bring a portable CD rack along with him for the show. These types of systems often have the option to play the entire disc at once without interrupting the music of the audience.
